HIV- Human immunodeficiency virus, has been the most dangerous disease so far than any other for humans. As the name implies, this virus creates a deficiency in immunity system. The virus itself is not at all harmful. It destroys immunity and resistance power of the body to fight external attacks and thus indirectly affect human life. There are two main types of HIV. They are HIV1 and HIV2. If not mentioned, HIV1 refer to HIV only. Let us know in detail about different and HIV1 and HIV2 symptoms and other HIV related information.

Most people treat HIV and AIDS both as a single term. These both are tow different stages of this disease. HIV is the initial infection stage while AIDS is the final stage of this disease.

HIV1 Vs HIV2

What are HIV1 and HIV2 symptoms

HIV1 has different variations, known as “clades/subtype” which are geographically distributed. For example, clade-E is found in southeast Asia while clade B is restricted to North America.  There are biological differences among these clades. If anyone gets an infection from more than one clades, this reinfection makes it more worst and difficult to treat as these clades have been combined and created a new form of the HIV1 virus. Thus more and more variations are generated with the passage of time and virus is becoming stronger day by day making it more difficult to treat and produce vaccines.

Additionally, HIV1 has following main clades: Clade M(main), O(Outer), N(None of both)

HIV2 is less severe compared to HIV1 and mostly observed in Africa. It is becoming common in India. US, UK, and France have also reported some cases of HIV2 but mostly it is restricted to Africa only.

HIV1 has two clades: Clade A and B

What are HIV1 and HIV2 symptoms

Both HIV1 and HIV2 symptoms are more or less common and spread in similar mode but immunodeficiency in case of HIV2 is less severe than HIV1. HIV1 is the most widespread and more dangerous among these two.

HIV1 and HIV2 have following symptoms which generally appears after 2 to 4 weeks after infection. In some cases, it may not appear for years after the infection.

  • Body and skin rashes
  • Fever with high temperature
  • Sore throat
  • Headache
  • Muscle pain
  • Joints pain

These symptoms appear when your body resistance system tries to fight the virus in your bloodstream. Our immunity system generates antibody to attack the virus. This is called seroconversion in medical term. HIV test identifies the presence of these antibodies in your body and confirms HIV infection.

Please note that above symptoms appear at the initial stage of HIV infection only. There are different stages of HIV and each stage have different symptoms. This initial stage is not experienced by all. Most symptoms are like flu. These symptoms also vary from person to person and their immunity and body resistance power. Some people may not experience these symptoms at all. This is why it is recommended to have HIV test periodically.
